Shortly before Thanksgiving, our house became infested with those annoying gnats, especially in our main bathroom. Day by day they got worse and worse and I couldn’t handle it anymore. I guess I thought they would just disappear by themselves, but they just multiplied and I decided that I had to take some action. I started with pouring bleach in the sink and tub drain, and I didn’t see any results from that. We bought those nasty fly traps that hang from the ceiling that they get stuck to and that worked some but there were still a lot to be taken care of. So this is where my tried and true recipe comes in. It is super easy and all you need is a few ingredients. The best part is, you probably have all of the ingredients laying around already.

  • 3 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp of Sugar
  • 6 drops of dish soap ( I use Dawn)
  • Plastic Wrap

All you need to do is mix the ACV and Sugar together in a cup (it is best to use a cup with a larger opening to allow more gnats in). Then fill the cup up about 3/4 of the way with water and stir. I like to add the dish soap after the water because it is not as sudsy but gets the job done (It seems like it takes longer to attract the gnats when the soap is all bubbled up). Lastly, stir everything together and cover the cup with plastic wrap, cut a few holes into the plastic wrap to allow the gnats in, but it makes it difficult for them to get back out.

*you can use any type of vinegar and it will work but apple cider vinegar works best because the smell attracts them more.

I put 3 of them around the house and it helped TREMENDOUSLY.  We also used Drano to kill the existing eggs in the drains but this super easy DIY gnat trap took care of the ones that we already had!
